What tends to appreciate
Scarcity plus enduring cultural relevance. Complete cast or squad pieces, deceased signatories, and items tied to a single defining historical moment consistently outperform common signatures on generic items.
The costs nobody mentions
Conservation framing, specified insurance, safe storage and eventual selling costs all reduce net return. A piece must appreciate meaningfully just to cover them.
Liquidity is the real constraint
There is no daily market. Selling well takes time, and forced sales are where collectors lose money. Never buy memorabilia with funds you may need at short notice.
A sensible approach
Buy the best example you can afford of a name you genuinely care about, insist on authentication and documentation, look after it properly, and hold for the long term. Nothing here is financial advice — past performance in this market is no guarantee of future value.
